Developing a postgraduate professional education framework for emergency nursing: a co-design approach

Abstract Background Hospital and university service providers invest significant but separate resources into preparing registered nurses to work in the emergency department setting. This results duplication of both curricula resource investment health higher education sectors. paper describes an evidence-based co-designed study with clinical-academic stakeholders from hospital settings. Methods The was informed by co-design, using nursing as exemplar. Eighteen hours co-design workshops were completed 21 key Results Outcomes matrices synchronising professional regulatory imperatives postgraduate coursework; mutually-shaped curriculum content, teaching approaches assessment strategies relevant for education; a new University-Industry Academic Integration Framework; five agreed guiding principles development university-industry co-design; Graduate Certificate Emergency Nursing Conclusion Industry-academic provider can increase relevance specialist courses nursing, strengthening nexus between entities advance learning employability. developed exemplars future use any mutually determined academic-industry partnership.
